THEY ARE ALIVE!!!

Tonight with a lot of help from Shawn, we were able to finish Jr. in one night and get him up and out in the front yard. So all I need now is to get the controller in place and I am good to go with the pumpkins (and I got to find my FM transmitter...it is somewhere here at the house).

It's alive!!!

Tonight I got the entire large pumpkin completed and up and out in the front yard!!! I will put it on a timer, without the animation until I have the small pumpkin done. I got the netting completed on it and tomorrow I will do the lights. It looks way cool and in the future light rope will only be better...but until then how many people do you know have a 7 foot pumpkin in their front yard?

I can see you...

Ok, over the weekend I got all the netting to tie the lights to on the big pumpkin and also I got it started on the small one.

I got the eyes on top of the big one finished too. I am using just mini lights this year instead of light rope (that is the next phase for a different year when I have more time), so it is not as sharp, but from the road, you cannot see all the spacing errors that those lights cause.

Hopefully Monday night, I can get the mouth done and be done with one!!

Day 3 - the PVC cutting is done!

Ok, I finished the cutting of the PVC and they are both framed up. Tomorrow I start putting the netting around it and finish painting (ran out of paint).

It starts...

Ok, so Bec bought me for Christmas last year the "Light-o-rama" kit so that I could put music and lights together. So earlier in the month, I started looking at what people were doing for ideas and I found these totally cool faces (I will call them Pumpkins) that you can animate and they can sing the songs for Halloween. What songs you may ask? Well here are a few:
  • Thriller (Props for the King of Pop)
  • Monster Mash
  • Ghostbusters
  • This is Halloween (from the movie "The Nightmare before Christmas")
  • and more

So after a couple of e-mails to some very helpful, kind and I am sure geeky guys, I got the files and the plans for the pumpkins. A couple of trips to Lowes, Ace Hardware, Manards, etc., and I got all the parts. Empty the cars out of the garage and I have the workspace and just like Dr. Frankenstein's monster...a work of art!!!

Well, it is not done yet but here are the pictures of where we are so far.

Day One: (this was last Tuesday night)

Lots of PVC cutting, sanding, gluing, and I was pretty close to having the first and largest pumpkin done (fyi the scope of work here is two pumpkins, one large 6x6 and the other small 4x4). Here are the results.

Day 2:

The largest Pumpkin is all glued and it fits together great! A really rushed paint job...lots of places to redo and the start of the small Pumpkin. Once the completed pumpkin was put together it was a bit overwhelming on how tall it was...seven feet counting the top part for the stem. You can see the base of the smaller one is there completed on the left of the picture.
